The India Office have sent
us copies of the correspondence between yourself and Mr. Amery in which, in your letter of the 2nd July, you suggested that the Rhodes Trustees might be willing to consider the transfer of the offer of Rhodes
Trust post-graduate studentships,
which was made to Hong Kong
University, to students from Chinese
Universities.
We should, of course, not
wish in present circumstances to demur from this proposal, but we think howin
that the Trustees might like to know
that some 112 members of the University of Hong Kong have escaped
from the Colony since Japanese
occupation, and have, with the
